PARTICIPATING IN THE STUDY
WHAT TO EXPECT
This study will last for two separate nights (about 5 to
8 hours each night, depending on how quickly your child falls asleep). Each child will experience four separate
types of alarms; two each evening. We will compare the ability of each type of
alarm to awaken children. We will also test children’s ability to do a pretend
escape task after awakening from each type of alarm.
This study will be done in the comfortable private sleep
rooms in the Sleep Research Center run by Nationwide Children’s Hospital
located at 83 Outerbelt Street, across the street from the Hospital’s Close to
Home East location on East Broad Street.
COMPENSATION
For your time and any inconvenience, you will be paid
$150.00 per family (not per each participating child) within two weeks after
completion of your family’s participation in the study. If your child does not
finish the entire study you will receive $25.00.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Participants must be 5-12 years of age and not taking
medications on the day of the study that may affect their sleep or awakening
patterns, such as some behavior (ADHD) medications and sleep aids.
If your family is interested in participating in
