MECHANISMS OF HUMAN HEALTH AND DISEASE PROGRAM
The Mechanisms of Human Health and Disease (MHHD) Program is designed for high school seniors who excel in science. MHHD is a fast paced, in-depth program designed to challenge the serious science student. Students in the program investigate cancer, heart disease, injury and other topics with lectures from research experts. At the final class, students present their research papers to peers, family and researchers at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
At the end of the course, the most successful student(s) have the opportunity to select a research expert from Nationwide Children’s Hospital as their mentor. Through MHHD, Dr. Dawn Comstock, principal investigator at the Center for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP), has mentored six students. Several of her students have gone on to win national awards for their research conducted at CIRP. She was presented with an appreciation award for her dedication to the program in August 2009.
