HEALTH CARE REFORM CAMPAIGN

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
Each day roughly 475 Americans die of injuries from motor vehicle crashes, assaults, fires and other trauma, making injury the third leading cause of death in the United States. This amounts to more than 170,000 deaths per year, more than twice as many as from diabetes and more than four times the number from breast cancer. The goal of the campaign was to communicate the enormous burden injuries pose to the health care system and the unique opportunity that health care reform provides to reduce costs and save lives.

As a partner organization, the Center for Injury Research and Policy joined 17 other research centers, professional organizations and advocacy groups to urge Congress to include injury prevention in health care reform.

This ad was created by the coalition of research universities, professional organizations and advocacy groups involved in the campaign and was enclosed in the "Health Care Hits the Roads" special section of the September 8, 2009 issue of Roll Call .
